"Everything started when I started living..."
...as if in one of my songs from the late 80s. At that time, this song was also broadcast by RTB2, and my uncle Naser, who was serving as a soldier in Rijeka,
when he saw it, proudly told his friends - I taught him the first guitar grips...
With my fourteen years, in the night of my senior year (well, after 8th grade), I picked up my guitar, and together with Adriana, we climb up on the podium to sing
Boy George's "Karma Chameleon." So what, it's not my fault that they hadn't told me about the Beatles or Deep Purple yet.
And now something very private: I was so shocked at my first appearance in front of the audience: Mitrovica, on the banks of the river Ibri, somewhere in the
mid-80s, I went with Uncle Naser's band to sing no less than - "Purple Rain"!
Buahh!
Imagine: due to “some small technical problems” the guitar I was holding was the only one to be heard, the microphone with a torn membrane was electrifyingly
shaking my lip, an all that just after the star bend “The Beginning of the End" with Adnan, Muha and Labi which just left the stage had a "catch"! Nevermind, I'm
not going to tell you what it looked like. But I didn't give up...
(am I annoying you?)
My song "Storm", the notes of which song were brought to paper by the well-known composer Mehdi Menxhiqi (I never went to music school, but you probably
already noticed!), after being accepted at Akorde Music Festival, was so successful... it opened all doors for me. Tomor, one of the big bosses of the music
production, impressed by my song, promised me to help getting appointments for recording (music groups were waiting for months for a 4-hour slot in the one
and only recording studio in whole Kosova).
And I didn't wait at all, I gathered some artists of the musical variety of the time and in the atmosphere of a Kosovar "Live Aid" we recorded the "Midnight Song".
You can read more about this event on Tung and Bung's website. Nooo, there’s no Bung website, I am just joking...
Then, “Edona” appeared in my (musical) life, where some great musician like Fatos K., Agroni (Karrlluci) and Mr. Blakaj were involved. After the broadcast of
"Edona" on TV show Musical Palette (thnx Violeta R.), the phone in my parent’s apartment (yes, I was living with them - I was only eighteen) was ringing non-
stop (fact that made my father very very pleased - to unplug the phone cable). This was exactly the leitmotif for the song "No connection", which may have been
more or less dumb (which “accidentally” happened to be the second meaning of the Albanian word for no connection), but in the charts of the time was number
one for more than 10 weeks in a row. Wow, what a talent (not kidding)!
(did you got bored, yet?)
And then? Various festivals, concerts, graduation evenings, prizes, victories, injustice, sharks, monsters, and many non-natural and especially illogical
phenomena, as usual, all that follows a young and inexperienced performer but with great will (sometimes). Well, this is show business too! The summer of 1991
found me in Europe! With an acoustic guitar I sang its streets. Result, new friendships, experience, and even a few cents (for a hamburger). For some time I was
playing country music with an American band, and another time I didn't sing at all (I bet you haven't even noticed).
(show some patience, it’s almost over...)
One sunny day in middle 90’ I met Ilir (Osmani). The result of the collaboration with him was my first album (I hope, not the last one because it would be a big
loss, hehe) - "Call my name!". The album was released few years later, because back then, the "producers" (read: tape recorders) didn't like the fact that I used
some explicit content, which compared to today's lyrics are quite harmless. Then followed a phase during which I created (mostly lyrics) for others. Reason?
Simple: they paid. I personally didn't have the money to order songs by myself!
That's it!
I don't want to bother you anymore!
Just a warning what to expect in my other (musical) subpages: in the songs page you will find (almost all) the (authorial) published songs, and in the lyrics - of
course, some of the most beautiful lyrics in the world (reuse without my confirmation - forbidden, memorizing them is allowed!).
(so, that’s it, happy?)
